Welcome

Living with a chronic illness or condition is hard, and caring for a loved one in that situation can be equally challenging.

 Persistent symptoms…

Unpredictable function…

A sense that things are changing…

An uncertain future…

How does one “Live Well” in such a situation?

Art by Stephen Ireland.

“Living Well” means facing the difficult emotions that “get in the way,” learning how to still find enjoyment in life, and engaging in anticipatory planning when needs change.

Whether your life has been confronted by the challenges of advancing age, the huge disruption of a new diagnosis, or the slow slog of decline, suddenly frailty and disability loom.

Perhaps you are caring for a loved one who now has one of these diagnoses, and have lost clarity about your role, feel at odds with other family members, or are overcome by pending losses.

Either way, your physical and emotional energy is sapped and you experience a sense of depletion. Bruce Feiler, author of Life is in the Transitions: Mastering Change at any Age, calls these periods “lifequakes,” which give an opportunity to rewrite the story of who we are. Consider this an invitation to explore strategies that allow you to recalibrate and navigate the essential changes that your circumstance demands.
